Collared pratincole chick in nest

Newly hatched collared pratincole chick. Pratincole are colonial nesters and here at Pinola, we currently have 4 active nests along this same wall, all roughly 3-4 feet from one another in a line. The nests are exposed, eggs laid in tiny scrapes made within the gravel bed. Keepers must be extra careful during this time In addition to the swarm of nesting pratincole buzzing around your head as a warning when walking by, all nests are flagged with a bright marker as a reminder to watch your step!
