Freckled duck males assume a red base to the bill during their breeding season. Here is a very good example of this. Freckled ducks frequently breed when conditions are adequate. While we do not have seasonal flooding here in Louisiana, periods of steady rains often precede freckled duck nesting. With our weather as of late, I fully suspect a nest or two in the coming weeks.
