Harlequin Hexagonal Nest Box

The harlequin ducks have shown a heavy bias towards this hexagonal shaped box as a nesting site. Both of the breeding harlequin hens, this season and last, have used this style of box when placed hidden alongside the waters edge. Many other ground nesting species have taken to this style over our old traditional porch box styles as well; lesser scaup, falcated duck, long-tailed duck, and many more. We learned of this style from Samantha Halpin and the fine folks at the WWT Arundel Wetland Centre and have had wonderful results since incorporating them here!
