White-headed Duck Brood

In a follow-up post from our earlier blog about natural nest site selection, it was decided to allow the female white-headed duck featured in that post an opportunity to raise her latest brood. This is this particular female’s third clutch, which is already pushing the limits of a single bird’s egg production, especially a species which produces such large eggs, in one season. By allowing her to raise this brood, it will allow her a much-needed reprieve and will hopefully finish the season with two successful offspring under her care. So far, she is proving to be a very alert and attentive guardian.
